The aim of The World Through Picture Books programme is to create an annotated list of picture books from around the world, recommended by librarians. The programme is led by IFLA Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section. The programme was launched in 2011 and the first edition of favourite books from 30 countries was published in 2012. The third edition (2023) features the lists of the favourite picture books from 57 countries, in 37 languages and includes 530 books. Among them are 10 picture books by Croatian authors and illustrators.

This year, Ibis grafika is in two categories on the IBBY Honour list (International Board on Books for Young People): Vanda Čižmek as illustrator with the book Catch the Blue Bear for Me by Silvija Šesto, Mirjana Bračko as translator with the book The Trembling Knight by Kęstutis Kasparavičius and Saša Krnic as editor of both books and representative of publisher Ibis grafika.

The annually published catalogue The White Ravens – Selection of International Children’s and Youth Literature is the most important continued publication of the International Youth Library from Munich. It is published each autumn to be presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair. All compiled titles are introduced at the Book Fair in Bologna the following year.

Extraordinary witty and satirically written short texts about animals linked to human professions and sorted in alphabetical order, but in such a way that the animals that illustrate the professions are these that are usually not loved, that are underestimated, feared from, or even disgusted by. Such an approach is completely new in the genre which tries to stress common character or phenotype similarities between humans and animals (alligator / film director, stray dog / goldsmith, hyena / politician, chinchilla / furrier, scops owl / gravedigger, goose / children’s writer, cancer / doctor, centipede / shoemaker, scorpion / astrologer, skunk / scavenger, etc.). The stories are written from an animal perspective, where animals rebel and protest the way people look at them and against the stereotypes. The texts have an ecological-activist undertone. Vanda Čižmek unobtrusively, with a simple black and white drawing, with only a few accents of color, follows the protagonists of this anti-alphabet, deliberately not distracting attention from the essence of the story itself.

At the Bologna Children’s Book Fair which was organized online this year, the winners of XIV International Illustration And Book Design Competition IMAGE OF THE BOOK are announced. Illustrations from the book THE ALPHABET OF THE UNLOVED ONES by Silvija Šesto, have won award in the category of Illustrations For Children And Youth Literature.

National Quiz for Promotion of Reading for 2021 as the central event of the Month of Croatian Book is titled SIX AUTHORS LOOK FOR THE READER.

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, students of the elementary school in Pazin will attend the program Watch out, the picture book! in which Davorka Semenić Premec, Vanda Čižmek and Saša Krnic will take part. The topic of the program will be the making of the picture book – from an idea to the picture book, from an editor to an author – Vera’s series. The round table – This and that about picture book – from 10 a.m. to 12, is the central part of the Festival and all the guest will take part in it.
